Jodhpur:TheRajasthan state governmenthas been issued contempt notices by the High Court for not relievingin-service government doctorsfor senior residency. Despite being selected for the senior residency and the directions issued by the Court in this regard, the State reportedly did not relieve these doctors of their service. These doctors have been waiting to be relieved for the past five months since their selection, as per TOI. When the doctors filed a contempt plea and the matter reached the principal bench of theRajasthan High Court, a single-judge bench of Justice Rekha Borana issued contempt notices to the Rajasthan Government. The counsel for the doctors, Yashpal Khilere, submitted before the Court that the doctors, after completing their MBBS course, are currently serving as senior medical officers in government hospitals. After clearing theNational Eligibility-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2021examination, these doctors were selected for postgraduate courses in government medical colleges, as per NMC guidelines. After successfully completing their PG medical courses, they rejoined government service. Under the National Medical Commission (NMC) Regulations 2022, it is mandatory for doctors to complete a one-year senior residency after the three-year PG medical course to be appointed as Assistant Professors in the medical education Department. "The state govt, based on marks obtained in NEET-PG 2021 exam, issued a state policy on April 1, 2025, to fill vacant senior resident seats in all govt medical colleges of the state. Under this policy, the petitioners were also selected," Khileree informed the bench. However, these doctors were not relieved from their service, despite being selected for senior residency. Taking note of the submissions, the single-judge bench of the Rajasthan High Court has issued contempt notices to the State Government.
