Visakhapatnam: A routine lunch break turned fatal at Deccan Remedies Private Limited after a gas leak in the pharmaceutical plant's reactor facility claimed the life of a senior chemist in Parwada Pharma City. The 41-year-old chemist, M Poli Naidu, collapsed suddenly while dining in the company canteen on Sunday afternoon. Colleagues rushed him to a hospital in Gajuwaka, but despite medical efforts, he was declared dead at 6 am the following day. DCP Parwada Vishnu Swaroop confirmed that Naidu had finished his work shift before the incident. A case has been registered under Section 174 of the CrPC, and the cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination. The Chemist and Workers’ Union (CITU) president, Gani Shetty Satyanarayana, strongly criticised the company’s safety measures. “A life was lost due to the management’s negligence in not following safety standards,” he told theDeccan Chronicle, demanding immediate action against those responsible and compensation of Rs 1 crore for the bereaved family.
