Bijnor: The sudden power cut at Amroha district hospital cost a life of a 40-year-old kidney patient who was undergoing dialysis and subsequently died due to incomplete treatment.
The patient has been identified as Mohd Amir, a resident of Mohalla Mullana of Amroha. He was suffering from kidney issues for six years. On Wednesday he went to the hospital at 6.30 am to get dialysis but was unable to complete the treatment due to a power outage in the hospital.
Since the system was not functioning, he was told to wait outside the dialysis unit until the electricity comes back. Waiting for hours after no electricity, he returned home at around 2 pm. However, his treatment was incomplete and his health started to deteriorate. On Friday, his family members decided to take him to a private hospital in Moradabad but he died on the way.

He owned a grocery store and earlier got treatment from private hospitals that left him in debt. He even sold valuable belongings to save his life. Ultimately he gave up and decided to get treatment at the district hospital. But the medical facilities were poor at the hospital and they couldn't even get the dialysis done which resulted in his death.
Back to back many patients are dying or either getting treatments under torchlight without electricity in government hospitals in Uttar Pradesh. However, the state government is taking no strict action against the issue. The hospitals are running without a proper generator and patients have to suffer due to the alleged negligence. Moreover, hospital authorities also refuse to accept responsibility.
When asked about the power cut at the hospital, chief medical superintendent (CMS) Dr Prema Pant Tripathi said, "There was a disruption in power supply due to which water supply to the dialysis unit was affected. As a result, dialysis could not be done. There were generators in the hospital which were working, but the patient's condition was already serious. He was also paralysed. We had to refer him to a higher medical centre. His family was taking him to Moradabad and he died on the way to the hospital."
A senior official told TOI "The hospital's dialysis unit is usually run by a private company. They were supposed to arrange light and water facilities. There was a power disruption on Wednesday due to a technical glitch. So, dialysis was not being done. The power supply remained disrupted till Thursday."
