Tomo Riba Institute Of Health And Medical Sciences First Convocation Held, 49 MBBS Graduates Get Degree Certificates

Arunachal Pradesh- Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Arunachal Pradesh recently celebrated the graduation of its first batch of MBBS students.
On May 20, the institute celebrated its first convocation ceremony, which is a significant milestone in the medical education scenario of the state. During the ceremony, 49 out of a total of 50 first-year MBBS students from across the country received their MBBS degrees.

In this convocation ceremony, Along with the institute’s Director Dr Moji Jini, Professor Ajay Kumar Shukla, Director cum Dean of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram, Maharashtra, RGU registrar Dr N T Rikam, Union Ministry of Health additional director general (Rtd) Prof Dr Rabindra Nath Salhan, were also present as the chief guest at this convocation.
As per the Arunachal Observer media news report, Ajay Kumar Shukla while speaking at the ceremony said “It is history because almost 100% result that too by the first batch by any medical college is unheard of for which Director Dr Moji Jini, the soul of the institute and his team deserve applause”.
“As the students had no seniors to bank upon, their struggling journey would serve as a harbinger for the junior students”, Mr Shukla added.

He further said “As you have learnt everything in this institute, never forget to pay back by at least proudly proclaiming that you are a product of TRIMHS. Moreover, from 300 medical colleges, the number has risen to 700+ during the last few years. About 20 lakh aspirants appear for one lakh seats. This is enough to realise how lucky you all are, but education on home turf imposes additional responsibilities”.
Besides, the TRIHMS director not only addressed the students but also made a special mention of those who contributed in setting up the college like Prof Salhan, Union joint secretary Indira Mallo, first dean Prof Jai Kumar, instrument in obtaining the 'Permission Letter' besides a central team led by Path Jyoti Gogoi who recommended setting up a college after a three-day visit here.
He also lauded the late Minoti Riba and late Dr Nirmali Taba families for sponsoring gold medals and cash awards for best students. The awardees were Dr Sheetal Kankani from Kokata and Dr Nibedita Gogoi from Assam.
In the end, Dean-cum-principal Dr Shyamal Kumar Bhattacharya administered oath to all doctors before certificates were given by Prof Shukla, Dr Jini, Dr Bhattacharya, RGU’s Rikam & controller of examination Dr Bijay Raji, in presence of parents of passing out doctors, students of other four batches, senior faculty members and invited guests.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu expressed his pride and congratulations in a tweet, stating, “I’m so pleased that the first batch of Graduates – 49 MBBS students of TRIHMS – has passed out. It is an incredible milestone which we will always cherish. A lot of sincere efforts have gone into building TRIHMS as an institution of excellence. I congratulate all successful students who received degrees at the first convocation of TRIHMS and wish them the best for the future!”
TRIHMS is the first medical college of the state which was established in 2017 and is located in Naharlagun in Papum Pare district of Arunachal Pradesh. The institute started its first academic session on 1 August 2018 with a total intake of 50 MBBS seats. Additionally, the college also has a 500-bed state-of-the-art hospital equipped with the latest medical technology to cater to the healthcare needs of the region's population.
