Bihar: Inauguration of Sri Ram Janki Medical College and Hospital

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to inaugurate a medical college named after Lord Ram and Sita, Sri Ram Janki Medical College and Hospital (SJMCH) in Bihar on January 21, 2024, a day before the auspicious ceremony of the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

Sri Ram Janaki Medical College and Hospital (SJMCH) will be established at Narghoghi in the Sarayaranjan block of the Samastipur district of Bihar. The Narghoghi, Shriram Janaki Trust has donated 21 acres of land for the establishment of the college. Apart from the academic and medical facilities, the plot also includes:

  • Doctor's residence
  • Boys' and girls' hostel
  • Dharamshala (rest home) to accommodate the relatives of patients

SJMCH has been designed with a capacity of 500 beds, 100 MBBS seats every year, and Out Patient Department (OPD) services.

The inception of SJMCH is expected to represent a significant development in the healthcare sector, enhancing medical services and contributing to the overall well-being of the people of the state of Bihar. Speaking to the ETV Bharat, Shubham Singh, project manager of the company engaged in the construction of this project said, “The last phase of construction of Ram Janaki Medical College and Hospital is about to end. Soon it will be handed over to the health department. It is being speculated that the OPD of this hospital will be opened for patients by January 15 of the new year.”

Meanwhile, according to the Hindustan Times news report, State Health Department Additional Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit has affirmed that preparations for the inauguration of the government medical college and hospital are still in process. Moreover, along with the Chief Minister, Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav and other esteemed guests will also attend the inauguration program.

Earlier, Nitish Kumar on November 6, 2019, had initiated the construction of SJMCH, which is estimated to cost around ₹591 crore.
