Silchar Medical College To Get State-Of-The-Art Super Specialty Hospital

Guwahati: Assam Minister for Health and Family Welfare Keshab Mahanta recently announced that a state-of-the-art super speciality hospital will be constructed at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) soon.
The confirmation in this regard came from the minister during his visit to the Silchar Cancer Centre on 30th April 2023.
The state government has given approval to the proposal to set up a super speciality hospital on the campus of SMCH which will benefit the people of Barak Valley.

By applying for a loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the facility will be constructed under the State Health Infrastructure Empowerment Project. The work will be started this year.
"Similarly, new civil hospitals will be constructed in Lakhipur, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts." the minister informed TOI.
Meanwhile, the Assam government is also mulling expanding the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) to 2,000 beds from 806 beds.
While reviewing the progress of the ongoing construction of the Silchar Cancer Centre, the minister directed the concerned construction agency to speed up the process and complete the construction within the stipulated time.
Mahanta also reviewed the healthcare services in Cachar district and Silchar and discussed infrastructural development, OPD, IPD services, FRUs, civil hospitals, BSc Nursing Colleges, etc., Gplus reports.
team had earlier reported that the Assam cabinet approved Rs 614.93 crore for the construction of the Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital. The decision was taken during a state cabinet meeting held in Guwahati under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. Announcing the state cabinet decision, Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah said, several other decisions were also taken in the cabinet meeting.
