Cyclone Dana Incident in Kendrapara
During Cyclone Dana, an on-duty doctor stationed at a primary healthcare centre under Mahakalapada block in Kendrapara district has been hospitalized following a venomous snake bite.
The doctor, identified as 33-year-old Dr. Babul Mohanty, went outside when the incident occurred. Sources indicate that he stepped out to attend to nature's call, as the primary healthcare centre reportedly lacked toilet facilities.
The incident occurred Friday evening while he was wading through a waterlogged road in the cyclone-affected Mahakalapada block of Kendrapara district. While he was outside, reportedly he was bitten by a venomous snake. The doctor was promptly taken to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and received immediate medical attention there. However, due to the seriousness of the bite, he was subsequently transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where he is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the medicine ward.
As per the recent media report by Odishatv, “The doctor woke up with a bite mark on his hand. He first suspected it to be an insect bite and performed OPD duties. After his hand swelled, he was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital. After the administration of anti-venom, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack,” said Sachidananda Mishra, Kendrapara Chief District Medical Officer.
Sachidananda Mishra, the Chief District Medical Officer of Kendrapara, provided updates on Dr. Babul Mohanty's condition, confirming that while he remains in the ICU, he is now stable. Chief District Medical Officer Anita Patnaik also reported on the doctor's status, emphasizing that his condition has improved and is currently stable.
In the aftermath of the cyclone, the area has seen an alarming increase in snakebite incidents, with reports indicating that 27 others have also been bitten.
