Kochi: In a recent development, Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) has opposed the petition filed by Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) students seeking reevaluation and more transparency in the examination system. KUHS has informed the Court that the existing rules do not allow reevaluation as they already follow a double-valuation policy.
The University has further informed the High Court bench chaired by Anu Sivaraman that uploading the answer sheets of all the students would not be practical as it would involve a threat to the privacy and secrecy.
This comes after a bunch of students pursuing BAMS course in several institutes affiliated to KUHS had moved to Kerala High Court seeking transparency in the system.
had earlier reported that more than 50 students sought in their petition direction upon the University and the Controller of Examinations of KUHS to upload answer books and score sheets of all examinations on the website of the University for the students to view and download, ensuring proper security and privacy. The students had further requested the HC to direct the concerned authorities to publish answer keys issued for all the University Exams.
The petition was filed by the students after several of the students failed in certain subjects in the University exam and faced obstacles for obtaining a photocopy of the answer book and the score sheet.
Claiming that a revaluation could change the scenario altogether and many of the students would pass, the students requested the HC to ensure more transparency in the examination system, and direct the University authorities to upload the answer books, scoresheet, and answer keys on the official website.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the petition filed through advocate Raghul Sudheesh stated, "The petitioners have strong apprehension of malafides as far as the conduct of these examinations is concerned and the petitioners believe that if a revaluation is conducted, the scenario may totally be different from what is now and many students will pass papers which they have failed."
During the hearing of the matter on May 18, KUHS opposed the petition through its counsel P Sreekumar.
"KUHS rule does not allow revaluation as they follow a double-valuation policy. Also, a third valuation is there in case there is much variation in marks in double valuation. Students can access the scorecards using the available statutory provisions. Uploading all answer sheets, of more than 45,000 students totaling more than 8 lakh papers, is not practical and also involves threat to privacy and secrecy of answer sheets. A detailed statement will be filed before the court soon," said Sreekumar.
The matter would be next heard after two weeks. However, no date has been scheduled yet.
