New Delhi: Clarifying that no new medical college or MBBS and postgraduate medical seats have been approved/sanctioned yet, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a warning against misleading and baseless news in print/electronic media regarding the establishment of new medical colleges and grant of UG/PG seats in various medical courses for the academic year 2024-2025.
Issuing a notice in this regard on Wednesday i.e. April 10, 2024, NMC clarified that the applications for the new medical colleges or increase of UG/PG medical seats in various institutes are still under process and any decision in this regard will be uploaded on the website of NMC immediately.
Referring to such false/misleading news, NMC mentioned in the notice dated 10.04.2024, "It has been observed recently that there are some fake news in Print/Electronic Media regarding Establishment of New Medical Colleges and grant of UG/PG Seats in various Medical Courses. It has further been observed that either “Heading” of such news is misleading or the “Contents” therin are baseless."
Emphasizing that NMC believes in transparency and has been promoting the same in letter and spirit, MARB pointed out that NMC has been issuing "Public Notice" in the matter from time to time on the website of NMC, which is the "only authentic information for any stakeholder/general public."
"The Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB), NMC has not approved/sanctioned any New Medical College or increase of UG/PG Seats in various medical courses for the academic year 2024-25 so far. The applications received for this academic year are still under process. Any decision in the matter, whenever is taken by NMC, will be uploaded on the website of NMC immediately," NMC mentioned in the notice.
Considering this, NMC requested all the stakeholders/general public neither to give any attention nor take any cognisance of any misleading or baseless news being published in Print/Electronic Media.
recently reported that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC received 112 applications for setting up new medical colleges and 58 applications for increasing MBBS seats in existing medical colleges.
The Commission had notified through the public notice dated 02.04.2024 that it had finalised the application process for the academic year 2024-2025 and it also shared the process of applications for the establishment of new medical colleges and increasing MBBS seats.
Similarly, the MARB received altogether 1675 applications including 1010 applications for the start of PG courses and 665 applications for the increase of PG seats in existing medical colleges for the AY 2024-25.
Among these, NMC through its notice dated 11.03.2024, informed that a total number of 10 institutes had withdrawn their 34 applications for starting and increasing PG medical seats. Through the same notice, NMC informed that it had sent communications in respect of 204 online applications for starting or increase of PG medical seats to the concerned medical institutes for information and necessary action by them within the stipulated timeline.
Again, through other notices, NMC sent communications on more applications. NMC had earlier clarified regarding the communications sent to the concerned applicant colleges and informed that the communications had been sent seeking deficient documents and information along with the submission of sworn affidavit.
