Bengaluru: Providing more medical aspirants with the opportunity to fulfill their dreams of pursuing medical education, the National Medical Commission has given its nod for 100 MBBS seats at the new Government medical college at Chikkaballapur.
According to a recent report by Deccan Herald, the NMC cleared the request of the state to approve courses at the new government medical college in Chikkaballapur, where 100 students can be admitted in the first batch.
This comes soon after the recent nod by the Apex medical regulator for a private medical college in Karnataka for 150 MBBS seats, out of which 60 seats will be reserved for the Government quota.
With this, the State of Karnataka is going to have 160 more MBBS seats in the Government quota.
had recently reported that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) operative under the NMC had given its nod for 150 MBBS seats to a private medical college of the State- G R Medical College Hospital and Research Centre.
However, as per the rules, 60% of these seats in Private medical colleges will be given to Government. So, in total, the State will have 160 more MBBS seats in the Government quota from this academic year.

As per the latest media report by Deccan Herald, not only this, the State Department of Medical Education is expecting to receive approval for more seats as applications seeking nod for commencing new government medical colleges in Chikkamagaluru, Haveri, and Gadag districts are pending before NMC, the apex medical regulator.
While commenting on the matter, an official from DME told the daily, "We are hoping to get a green signal for the three colleges soon."
"As we have almost two months' time, we are hoping to get the approval and add seats in the second and extended rounds," the official added.
It should be mentioned in the context that the MBBS counselling is expected to start in the State from January 27 and will end on March 31.
As per the data provided by the MoS Health Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar last year, Karnataka had the highest number of medical colleges in the Country. In 60 medical colleges of Karnataka, the intake capacity for MBBS admission is in 9345 MBBS seats. Among these, 2900 MBBS seats belong to the Government-run medical colleges, whereas 6445 MBBS seats are in the Private Medical Colleges of the State.
