NMC Extends Application Deadline For Establishment Of New Medical Colleges, Increase, Renewal Of MBBS Seats

New Delhi: The new apex medical regulator of the country, National Medical Commission (NMC) has extended the date of submission of Application for Establishment of New Medical Colleges, Increase of MBBS Seats, Renewal of Permission and Renewal of Permission against the increased intake of MBBS Seats in the existing Medical Colleges for the 2021-22 academic session.
The extension has been done in the backdrop of ongoing coronavirus pandemic and recent placement of draft amendments to the Establishment of New Medical College Regulations and the Minimum Standard Requirements for Annual MBBS admissions in the public domain for comments from the people and various stakeholders.
The applications from medical colleges will now be accepted between November 2 and 30 instead of the earlier deadline of October 16 to November 15.
The information to this effect comes from a recent notice issued by the NMC secretary, Dr RK Vats clearly stating:
"The last date of submission of application for Establishment of New Medical Colleges/Increase of UG Seats/Renewal of Permission/Renewal of Permission against the increased intake of UG Seats in the existing Medical Colleges in view of COVID 19 Pandemic for the academic session 2021-22 shall be 16th October 2020 to 15th November 2020 instead of 15th September 2020 to 15th October 2020.
However. in view of the COVID-19 Pandemic and placement of the draft Amendments to the Establishment of New Medical College Regulations and the Minimum Standard Requirements for Annual MBBS admissions in the public domain for comments on 13.10.2020, (which are expected to be notified shortly thereafter), the National Medical Commission has decided to amend the time period for the above-mentioned applications.
The time period for submission of application for Establishment of New Medical Colleges/Increase of UG Seats/Renewal of Permission/Renewal of Permission against the increased intake of UG Seats in the existing Medical Colleges for the academic session 2021-22 shall be 02.11.2020 to 30.11.2020 instead of 16.10.2020 to 15.11.2020.
It may further be noted that the applications for the academic year 2021-22 shall be accepted only ONLINE (the details of which shall be notified in due course). Applications submitted offline shall not be accepted.

The former head of Delhi All India Institute of Medical Sciences ENT department, Dr Suresh Chandra Sharma has been appointed for a period of three years with effect from September 25 while Rakesh Kumar Vats, the Secretary-General in the Board of Governors of the MCI, presently, would be the secretary of the commission.
The four autonomous boards under the NMC Act -- the Under-Graduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB), Post-Graduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB), Medical Assessment and Rating Board and the Ethics and Medical Registration Board -- have also been constituted, according to the notifications issued by Nipun Vinayak, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health
The NMC comprises a chairman, 10 ex-officio members and 22 part-time members.
The ex-officio members include presidents of the four autonomous boards.
The new body has also taken over the previous office of MCI asking its former employees to empty the premises
