NMC Holds Refresher Training Session for Medical College Assessors

New Delhi: Aiming to elevate assessment quality at Indian Medical Colleges, the National Medical Commission (NMC) recently held a refresher training session for the medical college assessors.

The training session was held on the 14th of December 2023 and it focused on reinforcing the standards and methodologies employed in assessing medical students. Dr. J.L. Meena (Member MARB), Vijayendra Kumar (Member UGMEB), Dr. Yogender Malik, (Member EMRB) along with three experts conducted the training session.

Issuing a Press Release in this regard, the Media/Publication Division of NMC mentioned, "The National Medical Commission (NMC) continues its dedicated efforts towards fostering excellence in medical education across the country. As part of its ongoing initiatives to elevate assessment quality at Indian medical colleges, the NMC conducted a highly successful refresher training session earlier today."

Spearheading this endeavor, the MARB of NMC remains resolute in its pursuit of ensuring a robust and standardized evaluation process across all medical institutions, the Commission further added in the release.

The Commission reiterates its dedication to continuously improve and innovate in the realm of medical education, ensuring that aspiring medical professionals receive the highest standards of training and assessment, added the release.

It was recently reported that through a recent notice, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC informed about its decision to engage faculty members of medical colleges as assessors for conducting the inspection process for the academic year 2024-2025.

Further referring to its decision to conduct surprise inspections of various medical colleges, the Apex Medical Commission has informed that in order to maintain the element of surprise, the Assessors will be informed about the travel details 48 hours prior to the inspection date. Therefore, the Assessors might be required to travel within 24 hours of the notification, the Commission has warned.

Apart from this, intending to reduce human intervention in the process of selecting medical college assessors, MARB recently announced its decision to use a 'Robust Randomization Software' to choose the persons who will assess the medical colleges.

It was specified by the NMC Board in the newly released guidelines for the assessment and rating of medical colleges. These guidelines will be implemented next year i.e. the academic year 2024-2025.
