Dehradun:The medical community has expressed outrage and raised concerns over the dignity and privacy of medical professionals after a shocking incident atGovernment Doon Medical College (GDMC),Dehradun, where a senior neurosurgeon was allegedly abused,assaulted, and manhandled by a reporter in the presence of police officials. A video of the reporter allegedly shouting and grabbing the doctor by the collar has gone viral on social media. It has been reported that the police accused the doctor of being drunk on duty, but the doctor denied it and even offered to be tested. During the conversation, the reporter began shouting and was recording the incident. When the doctor asked him not to interfere, the reporter allegedly became angry and assaulted him. had earlier reported that a shocking video from Government Doon Medical College has gone viral on social media, showing several postgraduate doctors partying late at night inside the hostel while being drunk, and dancing to loud DJ music. The All India FMGE Association, in an Instagram post, stated that the incident took place when a group of doctors was celebrating in their hostel after completing their final exams and duty hours. During the celebration, police and a reporter allegedly entered the premises without any warrant or prior permission. Also read-Doctor asks for space during patient examination, assaulted instead In the viral video, the neurosurgeon can be seen calmly telling the police that he was off duty and had not consumed alcohol. “You can test me, I’m not drunk,” the doctor is heard saying. However, the reporter allegedly stopped recording midway after the doctor asked him not to provoke the situation intentionally and not to invade his privacy. The reporter then verbally abused and grabbed the doctor’s collar while the police reportedly stood by without intervening. Condemning the incident, doctors and medical associations took to social media expressing their anger over the mistreatment of healthcare professionals. They pointed out that doctors dedicate their lives to saving others, but are being humiliated and attacked instead of being appreciated. The All India FMGE Association questioned the increasing hostility toward doctors, saying such behaviour is unacceptable, especially toward those who spend more than a decade studying and serving patients. “The situation of doctors in India is getting worse. A reporter grabbed his collar, abused him, and the police just watched! Is this what a doctor deserves after giving 12–15 years of his life?” the association asked. One doctor shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “A doctor who has devoted his entire life to saving lives is now being grabbed, threatened, and humiliated by a reporter—just because he questioned the invasion of privacy and leaking of private videos. Is this journalism?” Another doctor captioned the video, “This is how self-made doctors, who spend 10–15 years saving lives, are treated—abused and humiliated by police and fake media.” A social media user commented, “What kind of journalism is this? The police didn’t file assault charges just because he’s a doctor. Imagine if it were the other way around.” Another user wrote, “Justice has become a joke when officials stand by and watch instead of protecting the doctor who dedicated his life to patients.” A doctor added, “The irony—when the healers of humanity need healing from society itself. We talk about respecting doctors, but where is that respect when truth becomes inconvenient?” Doctors across social media have demanded strict action against the reporter and better protection for doctors’ dignity and privacy.
