Ahmedabad: Finding four specialist doctors in the State guilty of malpractice and negligence, the Gujarat Medical Council (GMC) has suspended their licenses during a special hearing.
The medical council took this decision during a meeting chaired by the former Dean of GMERS Medical College, Sola, Dr. Nitin Vora. Among these four doctors, the licences of three of them were suspended for one month. Meanwhile, the council suspended the fourth doctor's licence until he appeared before the council for a hearing.
Two of these doctors were found guilty of insurance money fraud and medical negligence allegations were brought against the other two doctors, reports TOI.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, GMC officials received a complaint from an insurance company, which alleged that a Vadodara-based gynaecologist had admitted a paediatrician to his hospital, Dwenz Multispecialty Hospital, as an indoor patient. This paediatrician was posted at the community health centre (CHC) in Por, Vadodara.
Allegedly, these two doctors forged a doctor's signature to claim insurance money. After scrutiny, these allegations were found to be true and thereafter taking action against them, the Council suspended their licences for a month.
The complaint against the third doctor was filed by a patient from Himmatnagar, who alleged that the doctor, an orthopaedic surgeon, had left a piece of gauze in a patient's leg after surgery. As evidence, the patient submitted a video. After conducting a forensic examination, the video was found to be genuine and after this, the Council suspended the doctor's licence for a month.
Apart from this, the Council also received a complaint of misdemeanour against an orthopaedic surgeon with Veraval Civil Hospital. Even though the Council summoned him four times, he failed to appear to present his side of the case. Therefore, the Council suspended his licence.
Commenting on this, an official said, "Dr *** was given a chance to represent his side of the case, but as he failed to appear repeatedly, his licence was suspended under the rules of IMC Regulations, 2002." Referring to this, GMC officials added that this was an unusual instance of disciplinary action taken against state-based specialist doctors.
