Nashik: A new medical college with a capacity of 100 students under Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and a 430-bed hospital attached to it was approved at a recent cabinet meeting in Nashik.
This is an unprecedented gift given to the people of the district and it is also a great achievement. The Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection and District Guardian Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has instructed the Central Government to immediately submit a proposal to start a post-graduate course in this college in the coming academic year.
Mr Bhujbal was speaking at a meeting organized in the context of Nashik Government Medical College and Government Post Graduate Medical College at the District Collector's Office today.

District Collector Suraj Mandhare, Municipal Commissioner Kailas Jadhav, University of Health Sciences Registrar Kalidas Chavan, Resident Deputy Collector Bhagwat Doiphode, Assistant Collector PS Meena, Deputy Collector Ganesh Misal, Superintendent Engineer Sharad Rajbhoj, Superintendent Engineer of MSEDCL Shri. Daroli District Surgeon Dr. Ratna Ravkhande, University of Health Sciences Coordinating Officer Dr. Sandeep Gundre, Municipal Health Officer Dr. Bapusaheb Nagargoje, District Planning Officer Kiran Joshi were present.
Mr Bhujbal further said, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences has been established in Nashik in 1999. The university is affiliated to all the health science course colleges in the state.
Accordingly, there were repeated calls for the establishment of a new Government Medical College of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences to provide teaching and research as well as intensive care services under the University of Health Sciences. For this, the government was following up first. It is expected to cost around Rs 627.62 crore for the college and the affiliated hospital.
It has also been approved to fix the course and other fees as per the provisions of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Act. Considering the increase in population in the district and the awareness created about medical education and health facilities, it is necessary to start a new medical college and hospital.
Considering the available medical facilities in Nashik district, it is also necessary to provide intensive care medical facilities in Nashik district. In the coming time, opportunities for medical tourism should be created in Nashik district and it is our intention to develop Nashik as a medical hub. Bhujbal said.
After the approval of the Central Government, the proposal along with a detailed plan of all matters for starting a medical college should be submitted to the Central Government immediately. Approval has also been given to set up post graduate institutes on the basis of infrastructure facilities for degree courses in this college affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik and also to create new posts for a total of 64 post graduate courses in 15 subjects.
This medical college and its affiliated hospital will be a fully autonomous institution under Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. To start this college, the Central Government will extend all possible cooperation from the Ministry level. Bhujbal said.
