NAAC Accreditation Mandatory: DCI Warns Of Action In Case Of Violation

DCI Notice on NAAC Accreditation

New Delhi: The Dental Council of India (DCI) has issued a notice urging all dental colleges which have not yet received NAAC accreditation to do so within the next six months.

In its notice dated August 10th, the DCI has also warned of severe repercussions in case of any cases of non-compliance.

Accreditation of all dental Institutes in the country by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) was made mandatory by the DCI in 2007 as per clause 9 - "Accreditation of Dental Institutes in the country by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is mandatory" of the Dental Council of India (Miscellaneous) Regulations, 2007, which states as under:

"NAAC Accreditation is mandatory for every dental college in the country, as per clause 9 of the Dental Council of India (Miscellaneous) Regulations, 2007 notified in the official gazette on 29.06.2007 but even after issuing repeated reminders by DCI, only a few dental colleges have made themselves accredited by NAAC and furnished the necessary certificate to the DCI office in this regard. Therefore, all the concerned Dental colleges, those have not yet get themselves accredited with NAAC, are strictly advised to get the same and submit the certificate to DCI office within six months otherwise necessary action, as per rules, will be initiated against them. A circular to this effect be issued to the concerned Dental College."

This was done to help the higher learning institutes to know their strengths, opportunities, and weaknesses through an informed review process and to further help funding agencies by providing them with objective data so that they can take a decision on the funding of higher learning institutes.

The DCI's notice further reprimanded the institutes that have not complied with the accreditation clause even after repeated warnings. A list of these institutes by the DCI and they have been directed to get NAAC accreditation within the next 6 months and submit the certificate to the DCI. The DCI has warned that any non-compliance in this regard will result in repercussions.

"Accordingly, the above said decision of the Executive Committee of DCI is communicated to you for your information and further necessary action in the matter, with a request to get your college NAAC accredited and furnish a copy of certificate to DCI office within six months from the date of issue of this letter," stated the DCI notice.
