Singrauli:A medical officer and a supervisor posted at theChitrangi Health Centre in Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh,werearrestedon Friday for allegedly seeking and accepting abribeof Rs 30,000 from the kin of a deceased snakebite victim, a Lokayukta police official said. According to news reports, the accused have been identified asa medical officer and a supervisor at the Chitrangi Health Centre — located around 80 km from the district headquarters. Both the accused allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from the family of Jaipal Singh, a resident of Bagaiya, who died of a snake bite in June. "They wanted the bribe for mentioningsnakebiteas the cause of death in the post-mortem report. Jaipal Singh's wife Phulmati approached the Rewa unit of Lokayukta police," Inspector Sandeep Singh Bhadoria said, news agency PTI reported. The two were caught while accepting Rs 30,000 as the first instalment of the bribe. A case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The two are being questioned," he said. A case has been registered against them under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and both are being interrogated. Further investigation is underway to determine if other officials were involved in the malpractice. had earlier reported that in a shocking case of bribery, a gynaecologist from Shujalpur was accused of demanding and accepting a bribe from the family of a pregnant woman, despite conducting the delivery at the Shujalpur Government Hospital. According to the complainant, his daughter had been under the doctor's care throughout her pregnancy. He alleged that from the beginning, the doctor hinted that the delivery would require extra money and suggested shifting the procedure to her private clinic instead of the government hospital.
