The deceased has been identified as a first-year MBBS student of ZMC and he was a resident of south Mizoram's Lawngtlai district. He was staying in a hostel room of the medical college.
North East Now reports that the results of the medico were declared on Tuesday and he found out that he failed the exam. He was depressed about his bad performance and the roommate of the medico also informed, "The student was avoiding food and remained inactive over depression since Tuesday."
Mizoram deputy inspector general of police (northern range) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte said that the medico shut the door of his hostel room at around 12 noon on Wednesday while his friends were playing badminton outside. When his roommate found the door barred from inside, he along with the college's watchmen broke open the door and found the medico hanging from the ceiling fan with the nylon rope, reports the daily. They tried to lift the medico's body and rushed him to ZMC Hospital.
According to the roommate, the body was still warm but despite several attempts of the doctors to revive him, he could not be saved.
An autopsy was not conducted on the body as per the request of the family members of the deceased and his body was brought to Chakma House in Aizawl as well from where it will be taken to his native village for his last rites, Khiangte added. According to the police, the initial probe suggested that there was no foul play as it was a clear suicide case. However, the deceased did not leave any suicide note.
