Meghalaya: New Medical Skill Development Centre Announcement

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma had announced that a new 'Medical Skill Development Centre' would be set up in the state.

Sangma took to Twitter and wrote that he met Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today and thanked him for accepting the proposal to set up a unique 'Medical Skill Development Centre' in Meghalaya. Sangma said that he has invited the Union Minister to join the ceremony in the state to lay the foundation for the project.

National Skill Centres Initiative

The team had recently reported that The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) planned to establish 140 Skill Centres in government medical colleges across India, to impart skills on life-saving interventions, informed the Minister of State Mr. Ashwini Kumar Choubey.

And the skill centers would be established under the Central Sector Scheme, Human Resource Development for Emergency Medical Services, the minister informed Lok Sabha. In his written reply to the Lok Sabha, the minister said that the scheme will be fully funded by the Central Government. Funds to the tune of Rs. 2.60 to 2.90 crores (depending on the location) are released to the Government Medical Colleges/ Institutions subject to their recommendation by the concerned state government. The funds allocated are for infrastructure and procurement of training equipment.

The team had also reported that a high-level probe was been ordered by the Punjab Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh, into the three development centres lying non-functional, since being set up in the medical colleges of Amritsar, Patiala and Faridkot.
