Chennai: In a tragic incident, a 23-year- old female house surgeon was recently found lying dead under mysterious circumstances in her hostel room in Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital.
The medico was under Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI). She had visited Indonesia with her parents and was under home quarantine though she tested negative. She resumed duty at the medical college on April 18 and had been staying at the institute' hostel due to the lockdown.
She was posted in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department and was not on duty in the COVID-19 ward, according to hospital authorities.
The incident reportedly took place on April 30th. She went for duty that morning and came back to the hostel around 8 pm. The medico had dinner with her friends and spoke to her parents, who live in Vellore, at about 10 pm.
Her hostel mates didn't hear from her even after her duty time was up the next day. Since there was no response from the room following repeated knocks, her colleagues informed the hostel authorities, who broke open the door and found her unconscious. They immediately alerted the police and rushed the doctor to the hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

A case was registered by Kilpauk police for unnatural death and the cause of death is not immediately known and samples have been collected for testing, a senior police officer informed. Further investigation is on.
Health Secretary Beela Rajesh and senior police officials visited the hospital and also conducted an inquiry along with Dean of Kilpauk Medical College. "As she did not wake up for duty this morning, her friends knocked on the room door. She did not respond, and so, they called the security guard who broke open the door. She was found lying on the bed and her pupils were already dilated," an official informed The Hindu.
The doctor was allegedly under a lot of stress due to work pressure. "Also, she posted a message in her family group saying her work was hectic and she had no time for relaxation," said a senior police officer informed TOI.
The authorities had extracted samples from her body and sent for COVID-19 testing, which returned negative. There were no physical injury marks on her body either. The postmortem conducted on her body was also inconclusive
Meanwhile, the hospital authorities have denied that the doctor was on COVID-19 duty. She was posted in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department, adds Mirror.
