Kottayam: Works Begin To Establish Institute Of Infectious Diseases At GMC, Govt Dental College Gets New Block

Kerala- Taking a step towards enhancing medical facilities, Kerala Health Minister Veena George recently inaugurated the works on the Institute of Infectious Diseases at Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital. With this, the Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital will soon have a new building for treating infectious diseases.
She further inaugurated the administrative and research block at the Kottayam Government Dental College. Dental College building constructed at Rs 16.5 crore has advanced facilities which are dedicated to world-class dental hygiene education. Due to its large space, the college accommodates functional spaces such as the Principal's Office, Pre-Clinical Lab, Library and Auditorium. Along with this, the college also hosts the first skills laboratory in any dental college in the government sector.
While addressing, she expressed her gratitude towards the commitment of the State Government to making Kerala a global healthcare hub, especially in the field of dental treatment.
As per the Hindu media news report, new building hosting the Institute of Infectious Diseases in the Medical College Hospital is being constructed at a cost of ₹10 crore with the assistance of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

The Infectious Diseases Institute will be constructed over an area of 6,000 square meters which will house a range of facilities including laboratories, ICU units, treatment rooms, pharmacy and state-of-the-art operation theatres as well as out-patient facilities. The institute will be built of five storeyed.
The funds for the construction will be sanctioned in phases and so far the funds for the first phase have been sanctioned. As per the funds sanctioned in the first phase, the authorities intend to complete the basement floor and ground floor of the building.
