Kolkata Shocker: PG Chest Medicine Student At RG Kar Hospital Found Dead, Doctors Seek CBI Investigation

Kolkata: In a shocking incident in Kolkata, a second-year postgraduate medical student at the Chest Medicine Department of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital was found dead under mysterious circumstances.
While it is still unclear what happened to the doctor and what led to her death, her half-naked body was recovered from the seminar hall, Kolkata TV has reported.
The 31-year-old doctor hails from Sodepur and was pursuing her postgraduation in Chest Medicine at R.G. Kar Hospital. Reportedly, she was on duty at the hospital.

As per the latest media report by Kolkata TV, her body was recovered today at around 11 AM by the hospital staff. Immediately, the hospital authorities were informed of the matter.
Consequently, a homicide team of police reached the spot and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal was also present at the hospital. The doctors were initially informed that there were marks of injuries on the doctor's body. It is still unclear whether she was raped or murdered after ragging or if it was a case of suicide, Kolkata TV has reported. The doctor's body has been sent for post-mortem as per the rules.
"Our 2nd year pgt Dr ***, was in on-call duty yesterday and full on well she worked and did dinner together with her juniors at around 2 am yesterday then went for rest and study to the seminar room because no proper on call room is there for taking rest in 36 hr duty... In the morning her body discovered in a way that rape and murder done ... No. Security in the ward for at least last 3 yrs as I know ... No sister stays there after 2 am in the ward ... security person sleeps," read a message, which was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user.

Commenting on the matter, the National General Secretary of UDFA, Dr. Arun Kumar told , "We demand an immediate CBI investigation and the prompt termination of those responsible for this gross negligence. The culprits must face the harshest possible penalties, including the death sentence, to ensure justice for the doctor and to send a clear message that such atrocities will not be tolerated."
