Kolkata Medical College Hospital To Open Private Cabins For Patients

Kolkata: A government-based Medical College Hospital Kolkata (MCHK) has decided to open private cabins with modern amenities for patients, which would also be charged accordingly.
The cabins would reportedly be built by March and the administration is planning to complete the work on the swanky cabins, with attached baths and added facilities like television sets and sitting space for visitors.

The private cabins would be built on the 8th and 9th floors of the hospital's superspeciality building (SSB), with 13 cabins on each floor. The cabins on the 9th floor are almost done, and the work on the 8th floor is ongoing.
MLA Sudipto Roy, who is also the chairman of Rogi Kalyan Samity at MCHK,said, "Efforts are on to open some cabins by the beginning of March." There are single occupancy cabins and twin sharing cabins which would be charged Rs 2,500 and Rs 2000 respectively.
MCHK principal Indranil Biswas told Times of India, "We will have two cabins reserved for our medical students - one for the girls and another for the boys - so that they get medical attention here as and when the requirement arises. Another cabin will be reserved for VIPs. The rest will be available to any patient willing to avail of the facilities."
Vital monitoring machines and oxygen supply would also be set up in the rooms, and the administration is working on manpower deployment, including doctors and nurses who would be posted in the cabins round the clock, in shifts.
When the construction work of the new superspeciality building was going on, the hospital was planning to set up the 13 cabins there but it was converted into a tertiary Covid-19 care unit during the pandemic.
Two government hospitals, SSKM Hospital and RG Kar Medical College also have established a system of paying for cabin beds. The RG Kar Medical College had recently established six air-conditioned private cabins on the fourth floor of the hospital's emergency building.
