Charaka Institute of Research and Ayurvedic Centre

Kollam: With an aim to boost Ayurveda treatment among the residents of the district and its neighbouring areas, a master plan of Rs 100 crore for a Government Ayurveda Hospital called Charaka Institute of Research and Ayurvedic Centre is set to be established soon.

Although the master project has been approved by the Kollam district panchayat, approval from the centre and the state government is awaited. As soon as the centre will give a nod to the project, construction for the hospital will begin.

According to the master plan, the new hospital building will be established on a two-acre 80-cent plot after demolishing the existing building and renovating some of them at a cost of Rs 100 crore. The finance for the project is yet to be sanctioned by the centre.

The announcement was made in a meeting held by district panchayat president Sam K. Daniel with Panchayat standing committee chairpersons P.K. Gopan, J. Najeebath, and Anil S. Kallelibhagam, secretary Binun Wahid, Habitat officials, hospital employees, and department officials.

To promote Ayurveda studies, research, and production of Ayurvedic medicines, the panchayat of the district decided to approve the plan which will distribute the knowledge of Ayurveda among the people and patients will visit the hospital seeking the traditional treatment.

The new six-storey hospital will be constructed on a 57,000-square feet area with the availability of all departments. The new building will have a total of 52 rooms with an attached bathroom along with other necessary facilities.

The hospital will also set up an Ayurvedic herb garden, pay ward, electronic token system, and a modern library in addition to extending palliative care to all blocks.

District panchayat president Sam K. Daniel informed TH, "Support from the Central government is expected for the project and steps will be taken to submit an application for financial assistance with the State government's recommendation. After getting the administrative sanction of the Central and State governments, the construction work of the hospital will be completed on time."
