Kerala Doctor Prescribes Husband To Visit Bar For Wife'S Leg Pain

Thrissur Incident

Thrissur Incident

A controversial incident involving a doctor has been reported from a hospital in Kerala's Thrissur, where a doctor was suspended after he allegedly wrote a prescription mocking and abusing a couple during their consultation.

In the prescription, the doctor reportedly asked a patient's husband to visit a bar, citing it as the solution for the woman's complaints regarding persistent leg pain. The couple from Mammiyoor visited a doctor of the vascular surgery department in Daya hospital, Thrissur, on Thursday to seek treatment for the persistent leg pain that the woman has been going through since the past two years.

The patient was asked to get an X-ray, following which the doctor asked them if they understood anything from it. The couple was subsequently asked to refer to another doctor since her leg was swollen.

However, the patient's husband requested the doctor to provide some medicine for temporary relief as his wife was unable to walk properly, which was again mocked by the doctor. The doctor, however, wrote a prescription that left the couple in shock when they took it to the medical store, reports Mathrubhumi.

The staff at the medical store began laughing at the couple after they showed them the prescription since it suggested the husband to visit a bar and no bed rest. "No rest for bed. Kettiavan (husband) visit bar if any problem," read the first line of the prescription, which left the couple humiliated and shocked.

The patient's husband warned of filing a complaint against the doctor with the chief minister after the incident. However, a hospital official on Friday said that they have not received any complaint from the patient regarding the issue. The hospital authorities sought an explanation from the doctor after hearing about the incident through the media, reports the India Times.

Stating that the doctor was suspended, an official associated with the hospital said, "Since his explanation was unsatisfactory, the doctor has been placed under suspension, and further action will be taken after an internal inquiry."
