He was a general physician who had served for the past six decades treating patients for just two rupees.
Dr Manjappa, a resident of Joseph Nagar in Sagara, ran a clinic for many years on JC Road. Patients from urban and rural areas used to come for checkups to admire his skills.

While most doctors today charge hefty fees for treatment, he never felt the urge to exploit his patients. His belief was in the provision of services to the less fortunate.
Many have claimed that Dr Manjappa never asked for a specific fee amount from his patients and always refused any sort of felicitation from organizations for his work, saying service of the people was the greatest source of satisfaction for him.
Apart from this, he also has the distinction of being a doctor who has treated three or four generations. In some cases, he went to the villages on a bicycle and gave treatment. Sometimes there are also instances where he has given medicines and sent them without asking for money from the patients.
His last rites were held at the Marikamba crematorium on Sunday where many popular figures including Legislator Halappa Haratalu and former minister Kagodu Thimmappa visited and offered their condolences, Vartha Bharati reports.
The people of Sagara were saddened by the passing away of a friendly doctor who responded to their hardships. He is survived by his son and daughter.
