Illegal Nursing Admission: Uttarakhand HC Imposes Rs 5 Lakh Fine On Dehradun-Based Medical College

Nainital: In view of alleged illegal admission to its nursing course by Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences, the Uttarakhand High Court has levied a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the institute. The institute by way of exceeding its approved limit of 100 nursing seats, granted admissions to 30 more seats with no affiliation during the time of admission.
According to a recent media report by Times of India, a plea moved with the court by The Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU), pointing out that the institute had no affiliation while granting admission 30 students in the 2017-18 session in the nursing course.
PTI reports, the counsel for H N B Garhwal University, Kartikey Hari Gupta, said that the college had an affiliation for only 100 seats from the university but it gave admission to 30 more students for the 2017-18 batch.
The college had an affiliation for only 100 seats, whereas it gave admission to 30 more students, which is illegal, Gupta said.

As per a recent media report by the Times of India, the bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari directed the university to let the students complete their courses in their interest.
Kartikey Hari Gupta, counsel appearing for the university, as quoted by the daily saying, "The court has directed the university to let the students study as it wasn't their fault that they were granted a university without affiliation. However, the bench upheld the university's decision to not grant affiliation with retrospective effect."
