Efforts to Address Doctor Shortage

Shimla: To meet the shortage of doctors in rural and far-flung areas, the state government had already filled over 262 posts of MBBS doctors through walk-in interviews and is currently looking forward to posting 200 MBBS doctors.

The confirmation to this effect was made by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur at the inauguration of the Interventional Radiology Outreach Programme organized by the Indira Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) where he stated that the state is committed to filling up all posts of doctors and para-medical staff on priority so that people could not suffer, reports IANS.

Later, he confirmed that the remaining 200 would be filled through the State Public Service Commission.

Strengthening IGMCH

Calling IGMCH as the premier medical institution of the state, he said that the government is committed to strengthening it with advanced facilities and latest types of equipment.

Earlier on the request of the radiology department, the CM agreed to provide a digital subtraction angiography machine which is being installed in the IGMCH with an outlay of Rs 9 crore.

“The state government will provide the remaining amount of Rs 1.50 crore required for this machine,” the CM added speaking to TOI. He said that a C-ARM would also be provided in the department soon.

Expansion Plans for IGMC

Also in view of the workload at IGMC, the need was being felt for its expansion, he further added. On this, the Statesman reported that the Himachal Pradesh government is going to take up the issue of Walker Hospital with the Defence Ministry for providing the campus to IGMC in order to expand its premises.

Construction and Development

Moreover, TOI reported that while inspecting the progress of the under-construction OPD building coming up at a cost of Rs 56.20 crore, he directed the officers concerned to complete the work within the stipulated time.
