Bengaluru: While considering a petition seeking CBI probe in an alleged multi-crore recruitment scam at the state-run Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Research Institute in Shivajinagar, Bengaluru, the Karnataka High Court had issued notices to the State Government and other concerned authorities and sought to know their responses in this regard.
The plea filed by Dr. Meenakshi Parthasarathy has claimed that recruitment in around 33 posts of assistant professors at the Institute was done in a fradulant manner and alleged that each of those seats had been sold for Rs 50 lakh to Rs 70 lakh, adds TOI.
Seeking response from the Government, the HC bench comprising of Justice S Sunil Dutt Yadav issued an interim order in this regard and directed the authorities to continue the services of Dr. Meenakshi Parthasarathy as professor at the institute till further orders.
The allegations of the scam were made by Dr Meenakshi Parthasarathy, who was earlier working at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI). However, three years ago, by an order dated March 8, 2019, she was transferred and permanently absorbed into ABVMC, Bengaluru.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, Dr. Meenakshi's transfer was granted as a part of a government scheme, aimed to deal with the excess number of staff at BMCRI. In fact, the High Court had held the sceme to be valid and observed that "legitimate expectations" of similarly placed assistant professors required consideration before undertaking any recruitment process.
However, on May 4 and May 5 of the same year, the Karnataka Government withdrew the order dated March 8, 2019.
It was the contention of the doctor that withdrawal of her transfer order was issued without a resolution, meeting or issuance of show-cause notices. She argued that it was affecting her service conditions and therefore she prayed for the intervention of the Court in this regard.
