Chandigarh: With an aim to regulate nursing education and keep "illegal" nursing colleges at a check, the BJP-JJP led Haryana Government is going to bring a new policy specifying norms for ensuring a uniform standard of education.
As per the new policy, in order to build a new nursing college (for up to two nursing colleges) outside the municipal area, an area measuring one acre would be required for this purpose. In the case of two nursing colleges, the required land is 1.5 acres outside of municipal area and a land measuring 2 kanals and 4 kanals would be necessary for setting up two or more nursing colleges within the municipal areas, reports The Tribune.
However, if nursing colleges are being commenced from the premises of the NMC recognized medical colleges or National Accreditation Board for Hospital (NABH)-accredited hospitals with a minimum of 100 bed capacity, separate land is not a pre-requisite.

As per the latest media report by The Tribune, after this new policy comes into effect, documents submitted by the management of the prospective nursing hospital need to be evaluated by the State government and after that, the government would issue letter of intent (LoI) which would be valid for three years.
"The applicant to whom LoI has been issued shall be required to submit application to the Director, Medical Education and Research, conveying for inspection for the issuance of no-objection certificate (NOC). Based on the inspection report, the application would be considered for issuance of NOC," the policy stated as per The Tribune.
While commenting on the matter, the officials have informed that the primary objective of the policy is to allow hospital-based nursing education.
Speaking to the daily, SN Roy, Additional Chief Secretary, Medical Education, and Research said, "The policy aims at providing quality nursing education in Haryana by way of prescribing comprehensive procedures and regulation in the field of nursing education as per norms to ensure uniform standard of education."
