Rajkot: A 22-year-old nurse attached to Sir Takhtasinhji General Hospital in Bhavnagar allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself inside the government hospital's storeroom Sunday.
According to a recent media report in The Indian Express, the extreme step was taken in protest of her proposed marriage with a man chosen by her parents.
Police found a suicide note, purportedly written by the nurse, from the storeroom in which she stated that she was taking the extreme step as she did not wanted to get married to the man of her parent's choice.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Rohidas Vaas in Bhavnagar's Anandnagar area who had been working as a contractual nurse in the government hospital for a month and half.

On October 17, the nurse was found hanging from a rope which was tied to the ceiling fan in a storeroom on the seventh floor of the hospital by a security guard following which he alerted the administration.
Hathising Gohil, Police Sub-Inspector (PSI), Neelambaug told The Indian Express, "The storeroom was also being used as a staffroom by some of the staff members of the hospital. There is a washroom inside and a few chairs were placed there. When the guard went to the room at around 8:30 pm Sunday, he found its door bolted from inside. He alerted the hospital administration. When they broke the glass panels on the door open, they found the nurse hanging".
The PSI further informed that her duty had ended at 8 pm that day.
Mentioning about the suicide note, Gohil stated, "In the two-page suicide note, the nurse wrote that her family had found a match for her but she did not want to get married to that man. Therefore, she was ending her life."
He added that, "Her family members also said she was upset since she could not clear a government recruitment examination recently. "
A case of accidental death was registered by the Neelambaug Police with the PSI, Gohil as the investigating officer for the case.
