GMCH Chandigarh Begins Specialised Paediatric Cardiology Services, Arrhythmia Clinic

Chandigarh: The Department of Cardiology, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 (GMCH 32), Chandigarh has begun specialised paediatric cardiology services and an arrhythmia clinic in the hospital. The arrhythmia clinic is scheduled to function every afternoon on Wednesday, whereas the Paediatric Cardiology Clinic will run on Saturday, forenoon.
The Paediatric cardiology clinic would provide services to children with cardiac ailments. The establishment of this clinic becomes important as there are very few centres in the region offering these specialised services and the new centre is aimed at the treatment of children suffering from heart disease.

The Arrhythmia Clinic would be involved in the care and treatment involving palpitations, which are heart rhythm disorders. The Indian Express reports that electrophysiological studies are conducted on these patients. And radiofrequency ablation is the method which is adopted for its treatment with advanced techniques such as 3D mapping.
These newly established services would likely boost healthcare in the region. Under paediatric cardiology, treating children at an early stage would help in preventing long-term complications. This would also help in reducing the patient load who require treatment for cardiac ailments in a tertiary care centre like PGI.
DM Cardiology and DM Pulmonary Medicine have also begun teaching and training students in these super-specialised courses. Meanwhile, the government has permitted to begin an MD Physiology course. Dr Sreenivas Reddy Professor, Department of Cardiology, GMCH 32 said that there is no separate centre that provides specialised treatment to children in this region, adding that the new facility would enable children to avail of the latest treatment.
team had earlier reported that the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32 had been sanctioned with 58 posts of senior residents and junior residents for which the interviews were being held.
