Kurnool: Facing the allegations of ragging their juniors, five senior MBBS students of Kurnool Government Medical College (KMC) have been told to go home by the college authorities on Tuesday.
The third-year MBBS students have been told to vacate the hostel and bring their parents along with them for attending an inquiry into the alleged incident of ragging on the hostel premises.
Allegedly, the incident took place after the college convocation on March 31, 2023. According to the complaints, some third and second year MBBS students allegedly forced the freshers for bringing soft drinks to their rooms in the hostel.
However, when the juniors refused to listen to the instructions given by the senior students, a quarrel began and the warden reported the matter to the principal of the medical college, Dr. P Sudhakar.

Providing details regarding the incident, the Principal told the Times of India, "After the convocation event, I received a call from the hostel warden that there was an altercation between senior and junior students. When we reached there, we found that some senior students tried to force juniors to bring cold drinks for them."
As per the latest media report by The Hindu, immediately, the principal arrived at the hostel accompanied by other staff and brought the situation under control. Thereafter, the accused senior students were asked to go home and come back with their parents on April 6, 2023 for attending an inquiry in this regard.
Already, a committee has been formed to investigate the alleged incident of ragging. The committee comprises the vice-principal of the college and three senior professors.
“The students have not been suspended from college, but disciplinary action initiated only after proper inquiry,” the principal told mediapersons.
“We immediately ordered an enquiry and have appointed the vice-principal and three senior professors to probe into the incident and submit their report by April 6. As a precautionary measure, we have sent the five students to their homes and have asked them to come back with their parents to face the enquiry on April 6. Based on the outcome of the enquiry, appropriate action will be taken if they are found guilty of ragging charges,” he added.
