Fire Incident At PGI'S Nehru Hospital, Chandigarh, Patients Evacuated

Chandigarh: In a concerning incident that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, a fire broke out on the first floor of PGI's Nehru Hospital in Chandigarh. However, prompt and efficient action by the hospital administration and the Chandigarh administration ensured the safety of all patients.
The fire reportedly originated in the computer room and subsequently spread to adjacent areas. Fires in healthcare facilities can be particularly concerning due to the presence of oxygen supplies, electronic medical equipment, and patients who may not be able to evacuate quickly. In this context, the response by the staff of Nehru Hospital is commendable.
Speaking about the incident, Dr. Vivek Lal, the Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, provided an assuring statement. "The administration of the hospital immediately responded to the fire and ensured that every patient was safely evacuated," he confirmed. Dr. Lal emphasized, "Not a single patient lost their life in this incident."
Highlighting the swift action by local authorities, Dr. Lal said, "Chandigarh administration promptly responded, dispatching fire tenders to the scene, which played a crucial role in containing and dousing the flames."
Such incidents underline the importance of regular fire safety audits, training for hospital staff, and a clear evacuation plan in healthcare facilities. While the infrastructure damage may have implications on the functioning of some services at the hospital, the primary focus remains the safety of patients, healthcare workers, and other staff, which was successfully ensured.
Dr. Lal concluded by informing the public that the situation is now under control and that the process of restoration has commenced.
