New Delhi: In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old final-year MBBS student of Maulana Azad Medical College allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan of her hostel room on the campus.

According to the police, "A final-year MBBS student was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her hostel room in the Maulana Azad Medical College on Monday. The information about the incident was received at 1.30 pm, following which a team reached the spot and recovered the body."

The medico was currently posted in the surgery department of Lok Nayak Hospital and was residing in the hostel of MAMC, reports TOI.

Speaking to TOI, a senior officer said a team went to the spot and broke open the door. The woman’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan. “Forensic teams have inspected the spot. No suicide note was found,” police stated.

An officer further added that a day before the incident, the woman had returned to the hostel from her home in Dwarka, adding that she hadn’t come out of her room for a long time. When someone knocked on the door, there was no response from inside. This raised suspicions of foul play, prompting the college authorities to call police.

The deceased's friends and family members are being questioned to ascertain the reason behind the alleged suicide, the officer said.

A friend of the woman said: “She had got home-cooked food for all her friends after returning from her parents’ home. Everything appeared normal. What happened today is unthinkable.”
