Fake Registrations Of Doctors: NMC Seeks Report From Rajasthan Govt

Jaipur: Taking cognizance of the alleged fake doctors' registration scam at the Rajasthan Medical Council (RMC), the National Medical Commission (NMC) has sought a report from the State Health Department, the Times of India has reported.
Confirming this, the Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Gayatri Rathore informed TOI that "A five-member committee is working on it. They are collecting data and factual details in the case. NMC has demanded complete details in the case, and we will share those with them once the final report is prepared."
had earlier reported that in a shocking development, the Registrar of the Rajasthan Medical Council (RMC), along with two other personnel were suspended in connection with the registration of doctors using fake documents.
The RMC Registrar was suspended after a five-member committee set up by the State Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khunvsar submitted an interim report. After the suspension of Dr. Rajesh Sharma from the post of RMC Registrar, Dr. Girdhar Gopal Goyal, Chief Specialist (Surgery) of Sawai Mansingh Hospital was given the additional charge of the RMC registrar.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, NMC has now directed the State Health Department to submit a report. Although the Principal Secretary of the State Health Department Gayatri Rathore informed that the five-member committee has not yet prepared the final report, preliminary investigations by the five-member committee indicated that the registrations were granted selectively and without properly verifying the documents.
Meanwhile, speaking to TOI on October 1, the now-suspended registrar of the RMC, Dr. Rajesh Sharma, said that he had granted registration to the applicants based on the NoCs received from the medical commissions in other States.
"An applicant who has completed their MBBS or PG must get registered under the medical council of the state where they have completed these courses. If they want to work in some other state, they must get an NoC from the state where they had first registered with the medical council. We provided registration to doctors based on NoCs from other states we received from them," said Dr. Sharma.
In its report, the five-member committee highlighted that doctors were given registration without verification of documents and many of such documents have now been found to be fraudulent.
Although the Health Department has not yet specified the number of applicants who may have obtained registration by using fake documents and stated that the details would be available once the committee concludes its investigation; sources informed TOI that the suspended registrar Dr. Sharma had joined RMC on March 8 and issued 12,576 registration during his tenure.
