Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College Tanda Performs Triple Valve Heart Surgery On Same Patient

Kangra: Demonstrating a significant advancement in healthcare services and a steadfast dedication to offering comprehensive heart surgeries, the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC) Tanda has achieved a milestone by successfully performing triple valve surgery on a single patient for the first time in the institution's history.
A triple valve surgery, including two valve replacements and a third valve repair, on the same patient was performed for the first time.
Dr Milap Sharma, Principal, DRPG Medical College Tanda, told UNI that the patient, who belonged to District Chamba of Himachal Pradesh, was suffering from rheumatic heart disease, with all three heart valves affected and thus causing heart failure.
He said that the patient visited IGMC and PGI time and again for an early surgery but could not succeed, and finally, the Department of CTVS at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College Tanda operated on the patient successfully on April 20, 2024.

He said that the surgery went uneventful, and after the surgery, the patient was shifted to the cardiac surgery ICU and is presently in recovery.
Dr Milap said that the department has already operated on a number of single-valve cases since last year, but this triple-valve surgery was performed for the first time at the institution.
He said that the surgical team was comprised of Dr Desh Bandhu Sharma, Dr Vikas Panwar, Dr Vikas Gupta, and Dr Bariz, along with the anaesthesia team comprising Dr Bharti, Dr Dheeraj, and Dr Kamini.
The principal of Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College Tanda, Dr Milap Sharma, congratulated the entire team for the surgery and appreciated the commitment of the Department of CTVS to expand the range of cardiac surgeries to provide the best possible care to heart patients in the state.
He urged the department to continue its pursuit of excellence in healthcare services, ensuring the best possible care for patients.
