Hamirpur: Dr. Gopal Berry has been appointed as the new Director of Health Services in Himachal Pradesh. The Health Department in a notification made confirmation of his appointment.
Dr. Gopal Berry, one of the senior-most Medical Officers, has been appointed as the new Director of Health Services in Himachal Pradesh. His appointment came after strong protests by the Medicos and a one-and-a-half-hour strike on Friday demanding the posting of a regular Director of Health Services amongst them.

Dr. Gopal Berry is presently working as the Deputy Mission Director of NHM, Himachal Pradesh.
The Health Department has issued a notification in this regard. By appointing Dr. Gopal Berry as the new director of the department, the government accepted the first demand of the agitating doctors.
The government has promoted him to the post of director, giving him the responsibility of this important department. Dr. Berry said that he will work sincerely for better healthcare and convenience and will make every effort to give benefits of better health services to the people.
Meanwhile, the HP Medical Officers association has decided to wear black badges during duty hours for the acceptance of their rest of demands.
team had earlier reported that doctors had decided to stage a one and a half hour pen down strike in all the primary health care facilities across the state from yesterday to air their demands to the higher authorities. The doctors had been demanding the immediate release of academic allowance and the recruitment of the Director of Health, among many other demands. "Filling up the post of Director of Health from doctor's cadre was not our only demand. There are other demands like the issue of grade pay which are yet unresolved," said Himachal Medical Officers Association (HMOA) president Dr Anupam Badhan. The protesting doctors were expecting a meeting with Health Secretary shortly and only after that they will decide their further course of action.
