Faridkot: Taking action against 40 students who tried to avail the benefit of domicile, the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) announced its decision of debarring them from getting admitted to MBBS and BDS courses in the State quota seats in Punjab.
These candidates allegedly used false information about their residential status for trying to avail of the domicile benefits in more than one state.
had recently reported that BFUHS had released the list of candidates who tried to avail the benefit of residence for MBBS/BDS admission in states other than Punjab.
Releasing the list of 231 such candidates, the University had also asked these candidates to give an undertaking to clarify that they have not applied for domicile benefits in any other state/UT for medical and dental admissions.

As per the latest media report by The Tribune, the authorities claimed that 37 students among the 231 candidates did not submit their declaration to clarify about their residential status. Therefore, they would not be considered for Round-II online counselling for the MBBS/BDS admission in the State quota seats in Punjab.
Reportedly, these candidates applied for the benefit of residence in several other states including Rajasthan, Haryana and Chandigarh.
Apart from the 37 such candidates, the university has further decided not to consider the candidature of three other students, who in their declaration admitted that they have applied for the domicile benefits in Harayana, apart from the State of Punjab.
Therefore, taking action against these 40 students, BFUHS has decided to debar them from MBBS/BDS admission in Punjab.
This is not the first time that BFUHS has encountered this problem. Several litigations are pending before the High Court over this issue. The reason for the pending litigations is the fact that the students were applying for the State quota seats in Punjab and the other states at the same time. However, this is a violation of the rules since a candidate can avail the benefit of domicile only in one State at one time.
Last year, taking note of the problem, BFUHS had directed all the MBBS/BDS candidates and their parents to submit affidavits stating that they were not claiming the benefit of residence anywhere else other than Punjab, except for central counseling.
In fact, back then the University had sacked around seven medical students as they had allegedly availed the benefit of domicile in more than one State by submitting false documents.
Finally, on August 25, the State Government notified that only those candidates who have mentioned Punjab as their domicile in the NEET-UG entrance test would be eligible for MBBS/BDS admission in the State quota seats.
