Ahmedabad: A case has been registered under Section 304 A (causing death by negligence) of IPC against a Sarkhej based doctor after the family of a deceased lady filed a complaint with the police alleging medical negligence on part of the doctor that led to the death of a delivery patient. The complaint was registered after panel of doctors from the VS Hospital held the doctor negligent in not conducting basic medical tests before or after the delivery.

The case concerned a pregnant woman was taken to Dr Bhatt's clinic, Maternity Nursing Home in Sarkhej after experiencing severe labour pain on March 7, 2018. In the same night, the lady gave birth to a baby girl but she was kept in the labour room for further treatment.

When the husband asked about the medical condition, the doctor informed that she was fine. However, after sme time, the condition of the patient deteriorated at which point 3 more doctors were called who also checked her. A few hours later the patient was declared dead.

The husband then filed an FIR to Sarkhej police where he alleged medical negligence from the side of the doctor. In the complaint, he also alleged that the doctor further asked for Rs 2,500 claiming that he had to call an anaesthetist to take stitches as his wife was not able to bear the pain. The husband gave the asked money to the doctor for which he alleged that his signature was not taken for the process, reports TOI.

The body of the deceased was taken to the VS Hospital where a postmortem was conducted.

Police filed the complaint after receiving postmortem reports from a panel of doctors of VS Hospital medical board which stated that no tests were done before or after the delivery, suggesting negligence by the accused doctor, reports the TOI.
