Kanpur:The female doctor arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for her alleged involvement in theRed Fort Bomb blastterror module has been removed from the pharmacology department board of theGanesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial (GSVM) Medical Collegein Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The accused doctor worked at GSVM Medical College in Kanpur from 2006 to 2012, was removed by the college authorities on November 15, 2025, as a precautionary measure to avoid reputational damage after her name emerged during the ongoing Delhi blast investigation. Notably, the National Medical Commission (NMC) on the same day also cancelled her license for the same reason and removed her name from the National Medical Register. Also read-NMC cancels licenses of doctors accused in Red Fort Blast case The official, requesting anonymity, told PTI, the college decided to remove her from the board "as a precautionary measure" following inputs by the Delhi Police and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). It acted promptly to prevent any "misidentification or reputational impact," the official added. The accused doctor served as the head of the department of Pharmacology from September 1, 2012, to December 31, 2013 and was succeeded by Dr Pooja Agarwal on January 1, 2014, an official confirmed. Teams from the ATS and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited the GSVM campus on Friday and again on Saturday, inspecting the pharmacology department and seeking details about the accused doctor and individuals who may have remained in contact. Investigators also reviewed selected departmental documents. IMA terminates doctor's membership The Uttar Pradesh Chapter of the Indian Medical Association has also acted promptly on the matter and terminated the accused doctor's membership on November 15. While the state association finalised the doctor's expulsion, official confirmation in this regard is awaited from the IMA state and national headquarters. For this, Kanpur IMA president Dr Anurag Mehrotra and secretary Dr Shalini Mohan had written to the IMA state and national headquarters to terminate her membership on the grounds of her alleged involvement in terror activities. According to the association, the accused doctor obtained IMA membership in Kanpur in 2012 along with her then husband. After the couple divorced, the doctor appeared on rare occasions at the association's events but never attended the annual Holi, Diwali and Eid celebrations organised by the association, as perTOInews report. IMA's Kanpur secretary, Dr Shalini Mohan, told PTI that the branch met on Friday and unanimously recommended expulsion, adding, "A formal letter was sent on November 13, urging permanent cancellation of her membership." She said the final decision lies with the central body of IMA. "I have no confirmed information yet on whether they (the central body) have terminated her membership," she added. Her alleged role "amounted to anti-national and terror-related conduct," Mohan said. A high-intensity explosion ripped through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, killing 13 people and injuring several others.
