Delhi: Dental Council of India (DCI) Anti-Ragging Regulations

The Dental Council of India (DCI) has directed all the dental colleges to take necessary steps to implement anti-ragging regulations to curb the menace of ragging according to the rules formulated in 2009.

According to DCI, ragging is a criminal offense, and the 'DCI Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Dental Colleges, 2009' has been framed to prohibit, prevent, and eliminate the scourge of ragging in dental colleges.

Students in distress owing to ragging-related incidents can access the UGC at Toll-Free Helpline at 1800-180-5522 or the Dental Council of India at 011-23238542.

Recently, through a written notice, DCI had directed all the dental colleges to conduct an orientation program/workshop at their premises at the beginning of the BDS Course by inviting/calling any one member of the Dental Council of India from their state or neighboring states (if not available in their state) for periodic training of the members of the anti-ragging cells/committees/squads of dental colleges and for awareness about ragging amongst students (freshers and seniors) within 15 days positively.

It is the duty and responsibility of the Management/Principal of the dental colleges to create a conducive atmosphere for imparting dental education to the UG/PG dental students undergoing training in such colleges and take all necessary steps to prevent/prohibit/curb ragging of any type in their colleges to enable students to study the UG/PG dental course, and its various parameters and concepts of dental education in a calm and peaceful atmosphere as the dental education requires grueling studies.

The Dental Council of India has been constituted by an Act of Parliament to regulate the profession of dentistry and maintain the highest standards of dental education in the country. It is the statutory and bounden duty of the DCI to take such steps which are required to be taken to maintain the highest standards of dental education in the country. Any dental qualification granted by any person/authority/institution is not valid unless and until it is according to the norms of the DCI Act and Regulations made there-under, the respective provisions of Sections 10, 10A, and 10B of the Dentists Act, 1948.
