Caught on Camera: Doctor Attacked by Masked Mob at Jhansi Hospital

Jhansi:A doctor fromSanjeevani Hospitalin Jhansi was allegedly brutallyassaultedin his chamber by a mob of over a dozen masked assailants following a dispute over treatment. A viral video of the incident shows the attackers were armed with knives, glass bottles, and a brick. The violent attack, which took place in broad daylight, has drawn widespread condemnation from the medical community. According to police reports, the incident occurred when a group of 13 men—armed with knives, glass bottles, and a brick—stormed into the doctor’s chamber and launched the attack. The disturbing video shows one of the assailants slapping the doctor 11 times in just six seconds. The doctor sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital. A staff member who tried to shield the doctor sustained injuries, and others were also beaten by the mob. The hospital premises were left vandalized following the attack. Initial police investigations suggest that the attack stemmed from a dispute over the treatment of the main accused’s mother, who had been admitted to the hospital on September 6 with a fever. According to hospital staff, the accused had multiple confrontations with them regarding her care and had issued verbal threats on several occasions. Just hours before the assault, police were called to the hospital following a dispute over the discharge of the assailant's mother. One of the assailants was caught by residents while trying to escape. He has since been arrested by the Jhansi police. Singh has been charged with attempted murder, and further arrests are expected as the investigation continues, reports theLokmat Times.
