Bidar: Three doctors have been sentenced to imprisonment for performing a botched surgery that led to the death of a woman. The court also refused to show any leniency while announcing the verdict and imposed a fine on all doctors along with a addtional jail-time warning over failure to pay the same.
According to a recent report by The New Indian Express, 4 people including 3 doctors were accused in the mater. Two of the doctors and the fourth accused have been sentenced to two years imprisonment and charged with a fine of Rs 10,000 each by the II Civil (senior) and JMFC Court judge Abdul Khadar. They would have to serve an additional six months in prison if they fail to pay the fine. While, the third doctor has been sentenced to six months in prison and fined Rs 5,000, who also would have to serve an additional one month in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

The case goes back to October 12, 2014 when a woman was admitted to the Sushrut Nursing Home in the city for a hysterectomy procedure. However, she passed away after a five hour surgery.
It was alleged that the patient was discretely shifted to Shree Hospital in an ambulance, which was owned by the third accused doctor in the case. The family members of the patient were not made aware of her condition. The chargesheet stated that the doctor to whose hospital she was shifted continued treating her without disclosing her condition.
However, it was eventually revealed that the patient had passed away in Sushrut Nursing Home itself due to the lack of ventilator facility.
The court while passing the orders, observed that the nursing home authorities were negligent in not having a ventilator facility for such a risky procedure. It noted, "Even though she was dead, Dr ***, in an unholy nexus with the two other doctors, had continued the treatment," quotes TNIE.
