Ahmedabad: The sudden demise of a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) female doctor has stirred up controversy, with 22 individuals holding a police inspector accountable for allegedly driving her to suicide.
The lifeless body of the doctor was discovered on a bench near the Vasant-Rajab memorial within the confines of the Gaekwad Haveli compound, home to the city crime branch, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), and Gaekwad Haveli police station.
The deceased has been identified as a 32-year-old BAMS doctor employed at a private hospital in Ahmedabad and residing in a paying guest accommodation in Shivranjani. Previously reported that she had been in a long-term relationship with a police inspector attached to the crime branch for five years. However, their relationship ended approximately two to three months ago, plunging the doctor into a state of profound despair.
The inspector, her former partner, allegedly severed all communication with her following the breakup. Before her death, the doctor had given details of her emotional distress in a suicide note, attributing her anguish to her former partner.

In the days leading up to her demise, the doctor made several unsuccessful attempts to meet with the inspector at the crime branch premises, only to be turned away. Her life ultimately came to a sorrowful end on a bench near the entrance of Gaekwad Haveli, where she administered poison to herself.
Sources in Gaekwad Haveli police said while probing the death of the doctor, they have recorded statements from the victim’s relatives, those who shared with her the PG accommodation in Satellite, and a few police personnel at the Economic Offences Wing.
Despite the testimonies of 22 individuals implicating the inspector from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in the suicide, law enforcement authorities have yet to formally press any charges against him, reports the Times of India. Inspector R.H. Bhati of the Gaekwad Haveli police department has stated that a team will be dispatched to the victim's residence in Kheda, following which a formal complaint is anticipated to be lodged.
“All the statements prima facie hint at the involvement of Khachar. However, the statements of Joshi’s mother and sisters are yet to be taken. A detailed postmortem report stating the cause of her death is pending”, said a police officer.
