BAMS Doctor Booked For Rape, Forces Woman To Convert Religion To Marry

Bhopal: An ayurvedic doctor has been booked for allegedly raping a female doctor. The accused also tried to force the victim to convert her religion for marriage. The accused has been identified as Nihal who practices Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS).
The incident took place when the victim, a 31-year-old physiotherapist met the accused and exchanged numbers at a hospital. The duo started getting close and eventually formed a relationship. The accused reportedly visited the victim's house. Later the victim received a marriage proposal from the accused. The victim was raped on the pretext of marriage at her house on November 2, 2018. The accused also took funds from the victim's mother to upgrade his hospital.
The incident was reported at Ashoka Garden police station, according to SHO Alok Shrivastava, when the victim became aware of the accused religion, she did not accept him. The victim protested and asked the accused his real identity, to which the accused forced her to convert her religion in order to marry him. Her name was even removed from the partnership agreement of the hospitals without her consent, the complainant stated in her report.

TOI reports that the victim later went to Ashoka Garden police station and registered a case against the accused under the relevant sections of IPC and Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act 2021 on Wednesday and no arrest has been made yet.
Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act 2021 — An act to provide freedom of religion by prohibiting conversion from one religion to another by misrepresentation, allurement, use of threat or force, undue influence, coercion, marriage or nay fraudulent means and for the matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
