B Pharmacy Graduate Held for Operating Unauthorized Clinic in Hyderabad

Hyderabad:In a major crackdown on quackery, Jubilee Hills police arrested a B Pharmacy graduate for allegedly posing as a doctor and running an unauthorised clinic in Yousufguda. According to a recent media report in the Deccan Chronicle, the accused, identified as Lingunti Manikanta, was running SVA Sri Medicare First Aid and Health Care in Sri Krishna Nagar and treating patients without any medical qualification. Investigations further revealed that he had partnered with Paruchuri Mahesh Kumar, owner of Sai Nitya Pharmacy, who allegedly assisted in prescribing and supplying medicines for profit. During the raid, police seized several medical items from the clinic, including a stethoscope, blood pressure monitor, thermometer, weighing machine, surgical instruments, injections, saline bottles, cotton, and medicines, along with ₹5,200 in cash. Officials confirmed that Manikanta was projecting himself as a qualified practitioner and attending to patients illegally. On interrogation, the accused admitted that he had no valid registration with the medical council and confessed to setting up the facility to “make quick money.” Police have booked him under Sections 318(2), 319(2) BNS and 15(2) read with 15(3) for medical negligence and unauthorised medical practice. Deccan Chroniclereports that the case has highlighted growing concerns over unqualified individuals practising medicine in Hyderabad and the risks posed to patients due to such illegal activities. The police have assured further investigation into the nexus between the accused and pharmacies allegedly involved in the supply of medicines for the unauthorised clinic.
