Assam: Senior Doctors To Mandatorily Stay In Majuli For 90 Days On Rotational Basis

Guwahati: In order to improve health care facilities in river island Majuli, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today instructed a team of senior doctors to be posted on a rotational basis regularly.
Reviewing the existing health care facilities in Majuli at a meeting there, Sonowal, who is also the local MLA, took several decisions to improve gynecological and pediatric treatment services of the district, along with infrastructural up-gradation of the health facilities.

Sonowal asked Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Samir Sinha to ensure that a team is constituted comprising PG Diploma doctors of the state to mandatorily to stay in Majuli for 90 days for better treatment to the patients in Majuli.
The team would consist of a gynecologist, pediatrician, anaesthesiologist etc to provide specialized treatment.
After one team completes its mandatory stay of 90 days, a new team of doctors comprising of specialists would visit the district for another 90 days period.
This facility of treatment by specialist doctors in batches would continue uninterrupted.
Moreover, the senior doctors and faculty members of Assam Medical College and Jorhat Medical College alternately would visit Majuli to provide super specialty treatment to the patients.
The meeting also informed the Chief Minister that in the last part of the current month, post-mortem facility would be introduced in Garmur Civil Hospital of Majuli, besides dedicating the two storied building of civil hospital to the service of the people.
There will be 200 beds in this new building.
Other facilities like major and minor operation theatres, x-ray, CITI scan, ultrasonography, laboratory facilities, Sick New Born Care (SNBC) Unit would feature in the new building.
