NEET-PG 2022 Examination

New Delhi: Despite several objections from the aspirants, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) successfully conducted the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2022 examination on its scheduled date i.e. May 21, 2022 at 9.00 a.m.

Around 182,318 candidates out of a total of 206,301 registered candidates appeared for the NEET PG 2022 exam at 849 examination centres in 267 cities.

Confirming that the exam ended smoothly, NBEMS in an official statement was quoted saying by NDTV, "More than 1800 Independent Faculty appointed by NBEMS appraised the conduct of examination at the test centre. Around 18,000 invigilators of TCS attended the examination. Central observers of GB, NBEMS also visited the centres in real time to oversee the conduct of examination. The exam was uneventful."

NEET-PG is an eligibility-cum-ranking examination prescribed as the single entrance examination for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses as per Section 61(2) of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 read with 10 (D) of Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. No other entrance examination, either at the state or the Institution level, shall be valid for entry to MD/MS/PG Diploma courses. Qualifying NEET-PG is mandatory for entry to MD/MS/PG Diploma courses under various Universities/ Institutions in the country. NEET PG is mandatory even for foreign nationals seeking admission in medical courses in India.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the academic calendar got disturbed and last year the NEET PG 2022 was finally conducted in September. This year as well the exam got postponed once as there was no time gap between the NEET PG 2021 counselling dates and the NEET PG 2022 schedule. However, the aspirants were still not happy with the revised schedule as it was almost clashing with the NEET PG 2021 counselling.

While associations such as FAIMA, AIMSA supported the demands of the aspirants seeking postponement of the exam, several doctors had moved to the Supreme Court in this regard. However, despite all the protests, the exam was conducted on its scheduled date i.e. on May 21.

As per the latest media report by NDTV, NBEMS had set up a Command Centre at the office so that the teams of NBEMS and TCS could coordinate the entire management of NEET PG 2022. "The exam was uneventful," confirmed NBEMS in an official statement.

Meanwhile, the aspirants belonging to Assam faced difficulties due to the heavy rains resulting in flood conditions. However, in order to deal with this problem, the local administration and appraisers arranged a temporary bridge overnight and booked a bus for the aspirants so that they can reach to the examination centre.

Although the exam didn't get deferred, as requested by the candidates, now the doctors are demanding for a second exam and requesting the authorities to hold NEET PG 2022 twice.
