AIIMS Bhubaneswar Lab Assistant shot dead; 4 arrested

Bhubaneswar:A lab assistant at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswarwas allegedlyshotdead on Monday morning near Santra village on the outskirts of the city while returning home from a night shift. According to the news reports, the deceased had just finished his night shift and was on his motorcycle heading home when unidentified assailants ambushed him. He sustained a gunshot wound to the lower left chest, causing him to lose control of his two-wheeler and crash. Though he was rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in critical condition, he succumbed to his injuries despite efforts to save him. Following the incident, four individuals were detained in connection with the killing, and a formal investigation has been launched. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Zone III, Tapas Chandra Pradhan, confirmed the arrests, stating that a 7.65 mm pistol, believed to be the murder weapon, and four mobile phones were seized from the accused. Shortly after the shooting, tension gripped the Sarkhanta area, with clashes and knife attacks breaking out between two groups allegedly involved in a long-standing land dispute. The violence forced authorities to deploy additional police forces to the area to prevent further escalation. In the FIR filed by the victim’s brother, he alleged that the accused had openly issued death threats to their family following the victim’s court deposition in a related case.
